The Octado from Dutch manufacturer Louët is an 8-shaft dobby loom, ideal for weavers who find 8 shafts sufficient but no longer want to deal with the complex treadle binding of a traditional loom. This loom combines superior functionality with sophisticated design, offering experienced weavers a comfortable and productive weaving experience.
Louët has positioned the Octado as the little brother of the Megado in its product range. Therefore, interested buyers should take a closer look at the two very similar models. The most important difference is that the Octado has only 8 shafts, while the Megado offers a choice of between 16 and 32 shafts.
What is a dobby loom?
A Dobby is a programmable shaft selector that significantly simplifies loom work. Instead of manually tying countless treadles, the Dobby controls the shafts automatically. This makes weaving complex patterns much easier and significantly reduces labor. The Octado offers two versions:
Mechanical Dobby: Here you program the shaft combinations using numbered holes on program bars and small pins.
Electronic Dobby: With a USB interface and suitable software (e.g. Fiberworks PCW, Weavepoint), the pattern possibilities are unlimited.
Special features of the Louët Octado
Smooth treading: Thanks to an innovative system, the rear warp beam lifts up, creating a large and even shed.
Patented warp beam: Ensures constant warp tension with every warp feed.
Braking system: Allows the fabric to be advanced without having to leave the loom.
High-quality materials: Made of varnished beech wood for durability and elegance.
